Barcelona and Manchester City have begun negotiations for Joao Cancelo, an Arsenal target, with Bayern Munich unlikely to pay €70 million.

According to reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, discussions over Joao Cancelo have begun between Barcelona and Manchester City. The Premier League champions are ready to sell the Portuguese international in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, he is also a target for Arsenal, with Bayern Munich unwilling to pay €70 million to sign him.

Joao Cancelo is staring at an uncertain future heading into the summer transfer window despite winning two league titles this season. The 29-year-old represented Manchester City in the first half of 2022/23 before joining Bayern Munich on loan in January. And with both clubs winning their league titles, he can boast of two winner’s medals.

But Bayern Munich will not exercise the option to secure Cancelo’s services permanently for €70 million. Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Manchester City will look to sell him in the summer transfer window. Such a situation has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona and Arsenal.

Barcelona will look to end the long search for Dani Alves’s heir in the summer transfer window. Joan Laporta has publicly asserted the club’s eagerness to find a solution to the right-back woes. And Cancelo’s name ranks highly on Barcelona’s shortlist. The Catalan giants are now stepping up their efforts to secure his services.

Florian Plettenberg has claimed that talks between Barcelona and Manchester City are underway. But Barcelona cannot make the decisive push for the 29-year-old due to the never-ending financial woes. Such a situation will come as a boost for Arsenal, Cancelo’s other big-name suitor.

The Gunners are in the market for an attack-minded right-back heading into the summer transfer window. While Ben White has excelled as a right-back this season, he does not make a decisive impact in the final third. Cancelo has thus emerged as a viable target for Arsenal heading into the summer transfer window.
