AC Milan could ponder a controversial €40 million move for Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea, but any deal will run into complications.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan are thinking about signing Romelu Lukaku. Although the idea is still in its infancy stage, the Belgian striker could have an approach from the Rossoneri ahead of a crucial period in his career.
It is not even a month since Romelu Lukaku played the Champions League final as an Inter Milan player. Time and again, the Belgian has reiterated his loyalty and love for the Blue side of Milan. But things could take a controversial turn if the latest rumours are true.
AC Milan are reportedly interested in exploring a move for the Chelsea attacker. Lukaku sees no future at Stamford Bridge despite having a long-term contract at the club. The Blues are keen to find a solution for the Belgian. But his financial requirements would place a cloud over his future.
Chelsea have already finalised a deal for Nicolas Jackson, who might lead the line for them in the coming season. Meanwhile, they have to find a solution to get Lukaku off their books, but visibly there are no real suitors at the moment.
Meanwhile, Lukaku recently took a trip to Saudi Arabia. But as things stand, he remains uninterested in making the move. More, so he wants to continue in Europe, and if possible, with Inter Milan.
Inter Milan may have already held talks with Chelsea, and they cannot pay the €40 million Chelsea demands. However, there’s shock interest from rivals AC Milan, who could consider a controversial €40 million move. No Inter fan will take the news lightly, and that could create tensions between sections.
Milan do have space in their squad for an experienced striker following the retirement of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Moreover, they are also flush with cash following the sale of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle United. Hence, they could have the means to carry out an operation for Lukaku, but they might mull over a decision.
Incidentally, the city of Milan has seen many players crossing the divide, with Hakan Calhanoglu the most recent to do so. While a move for Lukaku will stir up massive tension within the fanbases, anything is possible in Serie A.
