Chelsea and Liverpool have made approaches for highly-rated Spanish talent Gabri Veiga, who carries a €40 million release clause.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea and Liverpool have made approaches for Gabri Veiga ahead of a possible move. The 21-year-old Spaniard is a highly rated talent from Celta Vigo with a €40 million release clause and has plenty of interest in his signature.

Gabri Veiga has all the ingredients to become a big star of the future. And the young Spaniard is already dreaming of a big move away from Celta Vigo. The La Liga side are protected by a reported €40 million release clause, which they want in full.

Various reports have suggested Celta are not keen on negotiating a price for Veiga under any circumstances. The 21-year-old Spaniard has widespread interest from top clubs, including Newcastle United, Barcelona and Real Madrid. Arsenal and Manchester City were also keen at some stage. But at the moment, the dynamics have changed.

Chelsea and Liverpool have joined the race, with Fabrizio Romano confirming approaches from the Premier League giants for Veiga. He mentioned the Reds approaching last week, while the Stamford Bridge side also asked for information regarding the attacking midfielder.

Chelsea have also enquired about Veiga to understand Celta’s conditions, payment terms and even a chance to negotiate. The Spanish side are unlikely to accept a fee lower than the release clause but could allow the Blues to structure the deal if favourable conditions are favourable.

Liverpool are in the market for a young midfield target who could slot straight into their first-team plans. Fabio Carvalho may depart the club alongside others like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner after their contracts ended.

Hence there is plenty of room in this Liverpool midfield. Jurgen Klopp wanted a new attacking midfielder to add creativity. He may have wanted to add Mason Mount but will have to switch to a cheaper alternative. At €40 million, Veiga represents good value for the money in the long term, and hence he remains a firm target.

Similarly, Chelsea are on course to sell Mount, Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz in the summer. They must replace Mount with someone else, and Veiga might become that option. Due to their financial needs and the pursuit of high-profile and costly targets like Moises Caicedo, Chelsea will certainly want Celta’s demands reduced, but it’s unlikely.
