Newcastle United are very close to acquiring the services of 21-year-old Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga amidst interest from Real Madrid.
According to Marca, Newcastle United are keen on having Gabri Veiga in their ranks. The Magpies have been interested in the 21-year-old’s services for a while and are expected to go all out to land him at the club ahead of next season.
Veiga came into the limelight on the back of impressive performances for the Spanish Under-21 side. He has managed to translate it into consistent performances in the Spanish top flight.
The 21-year-old has been at Celta Vigo since his childhood days. He has come up the ranks at the club and was promoted to their first team ahead of the ongoing season.
And, in his very first full season with the first team, the Spain Under-21 star has left a mark with 13 goal contributions in his 38 outings.
Celta Vigo were well clear of the relegation zone until the very end but a string of poor results has brought them in a position where a loss in the final game at the hands of Barcelona could force them to the second division.
While Veiga played a big part in keeping them out of the drop zone for the majority of the season, the 21-year-old’s form has also dipped off late. But, despite that, there is a lot of interest in his services.
There is a €30 million release clause in the contract of the Spain Under-21 star and it could lead to his departure from Celta in the upcoming window.
Real Madrid are one of the clubs interested in the 21-year-old. They have been keeping a close eye on the Spanish attacking midfielder but might not make a move in the upcoming window. Their priority is to sign Jude Bellingham and they will try to get it done as soon as the season ends.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United could trigger the clause and seal the signatures of Veiga. The Magpies want to bolster their squad ahead of next season. They want to add as much quality as possible to be competitive in the Champions League as well as the Premier League.
Newcastle have been keeping a close eye on him ever since he came into the limelight. They are in search of quality midfielders and Veiga’s profile is something they admire as the 21-year-old is capable of featuring in both attack as well as midfield.
The Magpies have the financial backing to get it done. As a result, it might not be a surprise to see the Celta midfielder play for Newcastle in the Premier League next season.
