Barcelona will reportedly compete with Arsenal and Newcastle United for the signature of Spanish wonderkid Ivan Fresneda.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Ivan Fresneda is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are in the market for a right-back heading into the summer transfer window. And they have joined Arsenal and Newcastle United in the race to sign the Spanish wonderkid. Meanwhile, the youngster is available for just €20 million.

Ivan Fresneda is one of the most highly-rated young prospects in his homeland. The 18-year-old spent his formative years with five Spanish clubs, including Real Madrid. But he graduated from the Real Valladolid Academy before making his first-team debut in January 2022 as a 17-year-old.

But Fresneda’s stock rose after he made his La Liga debut at the onset of the 2022/23 season. And the Spanish wonderkid made 24 appearances across all competitions this past campaign. But with Real Valladolid dropping to the Segunda Division, the teenage sensation might embark on a new adventure. And such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona, Arsenal, and Newcastle United.

Joan Laporta revealed several weeks ago that Barcelona would enter the market for a right-back this summer. But amid their financial woes, the Catalan giants have been unable to zero in on the ideal target. Meanwhile, Fresneda is available for a cut-price €20 million following Valladolid’s relegation. So he has emerged as a viable target for Barcelona.

As for Arsenal, the Gunners have been hot on the trails of the Spanish wonderkid for nearly nine months. The North London club attempted to sign the 18-year-old in the January transfer window. But after a move failed to materialise Arsenal concentrated on a summer move. And recent reports have claimed that they have made a lucrative offer to sign him.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United are scouring the market for Kieran Trippier’s long-term successor. The English international has been a galvanising signing for the Tyneside club. But Trippier is 32 years old and will soon approach the twilight of his career. Fresneda has thus emerged as the ideal candidate to be his successor.

But widespread reports have pointed to Borussia Dortmund being in the pole position to sign the €20 million-rated Spanish wonderkid. However, Barcelona’s emergence in the equation can change things. And it will be interesting to see if the Blaugrana can beat Arsenal, Newcastle, and others to Fresneda’s signature.
