Unai Emery wants Aston Villa to push for Marco Asensio, with the Real Madrid star set to become a free agent n the coming days.

According to MARCA, as relayed by Sport Witness, Unai Emery is driving the charge to sign Marco Asensio on a free transfer. The Real Madrid star will leave the Bernabeu on a Bosman deal, rejecting a proposal to stay put. Aston Villa are seeking a winger, and the Spaniard could solve their problems on the wings.

Aston Villa just concluded a tremendous season that took them to Europe. The appointment of Unai Emery proved the catalyst in the run for the Midlands club, who finished in seventh position ahead of Tottenham, thus taking them into the UEFA Europa Conference League.

The newfound success has given Emery some room to decide on transfer targets. The Spanish boss wants a new winger, among other requirements, as they embark on a different journey next season. The manager wants two wide attackers in the window, with Leicester City’s Harvey Barnes also on their list.

There are doubts about Leon Bailey’s longevity amid all his injury problems since joining the club. Emery would like a solid option on the right-hand side. And Aston Villa have set sights on Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio, with the Villans preparing an offer for the Spaniard.

Despite numerous attempts to renew his deal, Asensio is winding down his contract at Real Madrid. He does not feel a prominent role under Carlo Ancelotti and has been a secondary figure in the team this season, not even starting half of the league games this term.

If Aston Villa are intent on Asensio, they must compete with European giants PSG and AC Milan, with the duo keen to sign him up. But Emery is pushing his club to sign the Real Madrid star with 20 goal contributions ahead of their competition.

Bringing such a renowned star for nothing seems like a good deal on the cards for the Midlands club. However, they must convince him to swap the prospect of Champions League football for the Europa Conference League. That may seem like a difficult prospect but not impossible.

Much will depend on aston Villa’s offer for the Real Madrid star, who has 20 goal contributions this season, and dealing with agent Jorge Mendes, who has good relations with the other clubs competing for his signature. The race is now open for Asensio. But Aston Villa will feel somewhat optimistic about bringing the Spaniard in.
