Chelsea could make a last-ditch attempt to convince Mason Mount to stay put amid reports of an imminent exit from Stamford Bridge.

Give Me Sport has claimed that Chelsea might make a late attempt to keep hold of Mason Mount. The £85 million-rated Manchester United target has plenty of interest, with media reports of an imminent exit gathering pace.

David Ornstein reported on Wednesday that Manchester United were preparing an offer for Mason Mount as they look to bring the Chelsea man in the summer. Reports from recent weeks have been rife about the 24-year-old’s future at Stamford Bridge as the Blues have not managed to find a breakthrough in contract talks.

Manchester United are set to launch a £55 million offer for the midfielder, but Chelsea could demand significantly more. Further stories indicated the Blues could ask around £85 million for the highly-rated Premier League star, something only a few clubs might have the power to spend.

Manchester United are waiting to find out their situation with the ownership. Once they find a resolution, the club could start targeting key players and confirm a budget for the summer. Erik ten Hag likes the idea of the Chelsea star, with Mount reportedly keen to join the Red Devils.

Incoming Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino wants the club to keep Mount and prioritise a new contract for the Englishman. So far, the two parties have not found a breakthrough in negotiations, with reports insisting the £85 million-rated Manchester United target has rejected a £200,000-a-week deal.

Now, Chelsea might make a last-ditch attempt to convince Mount to stay put and ignore the massive interest from elsewhere. The window is small for the Blues to get the ball rolling, as the £85 million-rated Manchester United target could start considering the many offers he may receive.

If Mount is adamant about leaving, then Chelsea will demand a significant fee and test the resolve of their Premier League rivals. There’s also the interest from Arsenal and Liverpool in Mount, but Manchester United may have the upper hand as things stand.

Staying at his boyhood club Chelsea could also become an option for Mount. However, he would want a contract offer from the club that reportedly respects his status in the team. Many have suggested he wants parity with the deal offered to teammate Reece James, which may include a salary of more than £250,000 a week.
