Manchester City are looking to bring in an alternative to Ilkay Gundogan if the German midfielder decides to move away from the club this summer. His contract will expire in the summer and has not signed an extension with Manchester City yet. He has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, who are hoping to sign him as a free agent.

The veteran midfielder has proven himself in the Premier League over a number of seasons, and he has won multiple domestic trophies with Manchester City. He will be hoping to win the UEFA Champions League title this year and could look to try out a new challenge next season.

He has a similar style of play and can chip in with goals as well. The Brighton midfielder is still quite young and is likely to improve further with coaching and experience. Working under a world-class manager like Pep Guardiola will only help him improve further.

Liverpool do not have the financial resources to compete with Manchester City, who can easily meet his £60 million asking price. So it remains to be seen how the situation develops. Liverpool are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements, and losing out on the Brighton star would be a major blow for them.

They need someone who can control the tempo of the game, add creativity to the side and fit into their pressing football. The Brighton midfield maverick seems like an ideal fit for them and the Reds will be desperate to get the deal across the line.
