Barcelona and Ilkay Gundogan have sealed a verbal agreement over a possible Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Ilkay Gundogan has taken another step closer to joining Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The Manchester City captain will likely leave the Premier League champions as a free agent. And he already has a verbal agreement to move to Barcelona in a Bosman move.

Ilkay Gundogan has been a reliable performer for Manchester City since arriving from Borussia Dortmund nearly seven years ago. During this time, he has been a trusted lieutenant for Pep Guardiola. And the German international has become the club captain this season following Fernandinho’s departure last summer.

The 32-year-old has made 300 appearances for Manchester City, chipping in with 58 goals and 40 assists. But Gundogan’s stint with the Premier League champions might end in a few weeks, with his contract expiring on June 30. And such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona.

Barcelona will head into the summer transfer window desperate for midfield reinforcement. That is because Sergio Busquets will depart from Spotify Camp Nou at the end of the season. And with Franck Kessie facing an uncertain future in Catalonia, they will need to sign a top-class midfielder in the coming weeks. Gundogan has thus emerged as a viable target for Barcelona.
