Barcelona will prioritise signing 26-year-old Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat from Serie A club Fiorentina in the summer transfer window.

According to reputed Spanish journalist Toni Juanmarti, Sofyan Amrabat is the top target for Barcelona. The Blaugrana will aim to sign a holding midfielder in the summer transfer window. And they have identified the 26-year-old Fiorentina ace as their top target.

Sofyan Amrabat has seen his stock skyrocket in the last 12 months. The Moroccan international had already established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A after arriving from Hellas Verona over three years ago. And his star has risen following a historic run in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The 26-year-old played a pivotal role as Moroccan became the first African team to reach the World Cup semi-finals. Meanwhile, Amrabat has turned out over 100 times for Fiorentina, chipping in with one goal and one assist. And the player’s progress in Serie A has captured the attention of Barcelona.

Barcelona attempted to sign Amrabat in the January transfer window. But a move did not materialise as Fiorentina’s asking price was beyond the Catalan club’s means. But Barcelona’s interest in the 26-year-old Fiorentina midfielder has not ended. But it is unclear how much Fiorentina will demand to sell the player.

Widespread reports have claimed that the Serie A giants do not want to part ways with the 26-year-old. But Amrabat reportedly dreams of joining Barcelona while he is still at the peak of his powers. And with Sergio Busquets leaving in a few weeks, the Catalan giants need a replacement.

Several midfielders, including Martin Zubimendi, have emerged on Barcelona’s radar. But while Xavi will prefer to sign Zubimendi, the Real Sociedad midfielder is too expensive for the Blaugrana. Amrabat has thus become the top target for Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window.

A move for the 26-year-old now depends on Fiorentina’s asking price. But if the price tag set by the Serie A club is too high, Barcelona might have to identify another alternative. It will thus be interesting to see if a summer move sees the light of day for Amrabat and the Catalan club.
