Ferran Torres will reportedly snub the chance to join Aston Villa in the summer transfer window as he does not want to leave Barcelona.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Ferran Torres has dealt a blow to Aston Villa. The 23-year-old does not want to leave Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The decision will also affect the Blaugrana, who wanted to recoup €42 million from his sale.

Ferran Torres has seen his stock plummet since joining Barcelona from Manchester City nearly 18 months ago. The Spaniard’s decision to leave a successful and enticing project at the Etihad to move to Barcelona raised eyebrows. And he has not seen any vindication in his surprising call.

The 23-year-old was fairly regular in the second half of the 2022/23 season. But Torres has been in and out of the Barcelona starting lineup for much of the ongoing campaign. And he has started only 17 games across all competitions this term. But despite the player’s reduction in stature, he remains a hot property, with Aston Villa keen on signing him.

Aston Villa might clinch European qualification before the season ends. And with Unai Emery taking the club in the right direction, they want to bolster their squad considerably this summer. Aston Villa will thus enter the market looking for several top-class performers to breach the top four next term.

Ferran Torres has thus emerged as one of the targets to bolster the offensive unit this summer. And with Ollie Watkins not having enough support from the other attackers, Aston Villa must sign a winger. The Barcelona forward is thus a viable candidate to beef up the Aston Villa squad.

Recent reports suggested Torres was open to returning to the Premier League. But Fichajes contradicts those claims, suggesting the Spanish international does not want to leave Barcelona. The latest update comes in the wake of suggestions that Barcelona and Aston Villa were advancing talks over a summer deal.

Barcelona hoped to recoup €42 million from Torres’s sale this summer. But forget a deal worth €42 million, an agreement might not be on the cards at all. However, it will be interesting to see if Aston Villa can do anything to turn the player’s head.
