Barcelona recently asked about the availability of 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong during a meeting regarding Jordi Alba.
According to Alfredo Martinez, Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff recently met Jordi Alba’s agent to discuss the veteran defender’s future. And they took the opportunity to ask about Jeremie Frimpong, who shares the same agent as Alba. The 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen full-back is in demand heading into the summer transfer window.
Jeremie Frimpong has come leaps and bounds since joining Bayer Leverkusen from Celtic in January 2021. The Dutchman has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Bundesliga in the last two years. And he was also a part of the Netherlands’ squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old is enjoying an excellent 2022/23 season, where he has been one of the best performers for Bayer Leverkusen. And he has directly contributed to 19 goals, finding the back of the net nine times and providing ten assists. Frimpong’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Barcelona being one of his prospective suitors.
Joan Laporta is determined to sign a top-class right-back in the summer transfer window. The Barcelona president recently revealed that the Blaugrana would look to end the right-back woes once and for all. And several right-backs, including Vanderson, have emerged on Barcelona’s radar.
Frimpong is also a viable target, with Barcelona recently joining the race to sign the 22-year-old. And the interest in the youngster is understandable, considering his ball-playing abilities. The player’s 19 goal contributions show he is competent on the ball and can string together creative moves.
So after utilising Jules Kounde, a centre-back, as a right-back this season, Xavi Hernandez might be delighted to have Frimpong at his disposal. And Barcelona recently enquired about the Dutchman during a meeting with Jordi Alba’s agent. While the primary focus of the discussions was Alba’s future, the Bayer Leverkusen defender’s name also came up.
But recent reports have claimed that the 22-year-old full-back wants to join Manchester United. And unless the Red Devils set their sights elsewhere, Barcelona might struggle to secure Frimpong’s services. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the youngster.
