Barcelona will likely lodge an offer to sign 21-year-old AS Monaco full-back Vanderson, also a target for Manchester United.
According to a report by SPORT, Vanderson is the subject of interest from Barcelona. Deco will push to sign the 21-year-old AS Monaco full-back once he assumes his role at the Catalan club. Meanwhile, the youngster is also a target for Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.
Vanderson has taken no time to become a regular for AS Monaco. The Brazilian defender joined the Ligue 1 club from Gremio in January 2022 and gradually rose to prominence at Stade Louis II. But he has been a pivotal figure for Monaco thus far during the 2022/23 season.
The 21-year-old has turned out 35 times across all competitions, chipping in with one goal and five assists. Vanderson’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with several high-profile clubs setting their sights on him. And Barcelona and Manchester United are his prospective suitors ahead of the summer transfer window.
Barcelona briefly considered signing Vanderson from AS Monaco last summer. But the finances involved in securing his services meant the Blaugrana had to abandon the move. However, the interest in the young full-back remains, with Barcelona’s right-back woes not behind them.
Xavi Hernandez has had to deploy Jules Kounde, a centre-back, as Barcelona’s first-choice right-back this season. But the situation is not feasible in the long run. Several right-backs have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar. And the Catalan giants intend to launch the offensive for the 21-year-old once Deco assumes charge in his reported role.
But Manchester United will compete with Barcelona in the race to sign the Brazilian right-back. And the Red Devils’ interest in the youngster is understandable, considering the inconsistencies of Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. One player does not contribute defensively, and the other has poor offensive output. So pursuing a full-back like Vanderson is understandable.
Manchester United will be in a much healthier financial position to secure Vanderson’s services this summer. But it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can conjure up the money to prise him away from AS Monaco.
