La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly reignited their interest in 21-year-old Brazilian full-back Vanderson ahead of the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Vanderson is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants have revived their interest in the young Brazilian full-back. And they view the AS Monaco defender as an alternative to players like Joao Cancelo, Benjamin Pavard, and others.

Vanderson has come leaps and bounds since arriving in Europe just over a year ago. A graduate of the Gremio academy, the 21-year-old made swift progress at the Brazilian club before coming to Europe. And he has gone from strength to strength at the Monegasque club in the last 14 months.

The Brazilian full-back has enjoyed a solid 2022/23 season, chipping in with four assists in 30 appearances. And Vanderson’s progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs this season. Some of the prospective suitors have been Manchester United and Tottenham, with Barcelona also interested.

Barcelona attempted to sign the 21-year-old Brazilian full-back before he arrived in Europe. They then considered a summer move for the player last year. But a move did not materialise on either occasion. However, that has not deterred Barcelona, as they continue to monitor his progress closely.

The Blaugrana will head into the summer transfer window eager to sign a right-back. Joan Laporta has also revealed that signing a right-sided full-back is among Barcelona’s priorities. Several candidates have thus popped up on Barcelona’s radar, including Joao Cancelo. But most of their right-back targets will cost a pretty penny.

The Catalan giants are thus considering signing Vanderson instead of other players like Benjamin Pavard. But the 21-year-old Brazilian full-back’s contract runs until June 30, 2027. So AS Monaco will unlikely let him leave on the cheap if they receive an approach from Barcelona.

The Blaugrana will thus be in a complicated situation, especially amid Javier Tebas’s recent claims. The Catalan giants need to balance their books before signing and registering new players in the summer. And it will be interesting to see if Vanderson is a viable candidate to bolster the Barcelona squad.
