La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly tracking the progress of 21-year-old Brazilian full-back Vanderson at AS Monaco.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Vanderson is one of ten right-backs on the radar of FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants are assessing all the options before entering the market to finally end their right-back woes.

Barcelona’s issues in the right-back department have been well documented. The Catalan giants have struggled to find the successor to Dani Alves following the Brazilian’s first departure from Camp Nou. Since then, the veteran right-back rejoined Barcelona and was the club’s best right-back during a short stint.

That explains how bad the situation in the right-back department has been for Barcelona for several years. Players like Nelson Semedo, Oscar Mingueza, Sergi Roberto, and Sergino Dest have tried and failed miserably to fill Alves’s void. And while Roberto remains at Spotify Camp Nou, he is no longer a regular.

Barcelona tried to address the right-back issues by signing Hector Bellerin in the summer. But the Spaniard has failed to make his mark and will likely depart from Camp Nou next year. So Barcelona will need to delve into the market for another right-back in the 2023 summer transfer window. And Vanderson has emerged as a viable target.

The 21-year-old has been in Europe for less than a year, joining AS Monaco from Gremio in January. And Vanderson has made considerable progress in the last twelve months and is enjoying a solid 2022/23 season. The Brazilian full-back has chipped in with two assists in 22 appearances thus far this term.

Vanderson’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with the youngster emerging on Barcelona’s radar. He had also briefly been a target for Barcelona in the summer transfer window before the Catalan giants moved on to other candidates. But the 21-year-old Brazilian full-back is a viable target now for the Blaugrana.

The Catalan giants are tracking nine other right-backs apart from Vanderson. Some of the names are Diogo Dalot, Jeremie Frimpong, and Juan Foyth. And it will be interesting to see who among the young full-backs becomes the top target for Barcelona.
