Inter Milan will look to sign Samuel Umtiti from Barcelona after the 29-year-old’s successful loan stint with fellow Serie A club Lecce.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Samuel Umtiti is the subject of interest from Inter Milan. The 29-year-old has impressed the Nerazzurri during his ongoing loan stint in Serie A with Lecce. And Barcelona will likely part ways with him in the summer transfer window.

Samuel Umtiti is finally resurrecting his career after a few years in the wilderness at FC Barcelona. The Frenchman was once among the best defenders in the world after starting his stint with the Blaugrana strongly. But fitness issues plagued him year after year, and he became a bit-part player for Barcelona.

Barcelona finally decided to address the Umtiti problem last summer, shipping him out on loan to Lecce. And the 29-year-old has resurrected his career at the Serie A club, turning out 21 times thus far this term. But the player still does not have a future with Barcelona, who will look to offload him this summer. And such a situation has captured the attention of Inter Milan.

The Serie A giants are in a spot of bother over the futures of several players. That is because Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij are in the final months of their Inter Milan contracts. And Skriniar will likely leave the Nerazzurri as a free agent in the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, de Vrij’s future remains uncertain, although he might sign a new contract. Nonetheless, widespread reports have linked the Dutchman with several clubs. So it behoves Inter Milan to scour the market for possible solutions to the central defensive issues that might crop up. Umtiti has thus emerged as a viable target for the Nerazzurri.

The 29-year-old is already well-settled in Serie A after an arguably successful stint with Lecce. And he should revel in Simone Inzaghi’s system at San Sir. With Barcelona unlikely to object to Umtiti’s sale, a summer deal is seemingly on the cards.

But other Serie A clubs, including AC Milan, have also shown interest in the 29-year-old French centre-back. So it will be interesting to see if Inter Milan can beat the competition to land the Barcelona defender in the summer transfer window.
