Mauricio Pochettino asks Chelsea to sign Wilfried Zaha

Chelsea are close to appointing Mauricio Pochettino as their next manager, with the Argentine demanding Wilfried Zaha as his first signing.

According to Fichajes, Mauricio Pochettino wants Chelsea to sign Wilfried Zaha on a free transfer from Crystal Palace. The 30-year-old’s contract with the Eagles will expire next month, and the are hoping to snap the mercurial forward up.

Zaha has been a proven performer in the Premier League for the Eagles, and he could prove to be a quality short-term addition to the Chelsea attack. The Blues have struggled to score goals consistently this season, and the 30-year-old will certainly help them improve. Meanwhile, they are closing in on appointing Mauricio Pochettino as their next boss.

Zaha has seven goals and three assists to his name across all competitions. Those numbers are likely to improve when he’s playing in a better team. The 30-year-old is a proven performer in English football, and he will be expected to make an immediate impact and transform Chelsea in the final third.

Zaha can play anywhere across the front three, but he is more suited to the role of left-winger. It will be interesting to see how Mauricio Pochettino accommodates him in his starting lineup, especially with players like Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk already at the club.

Zaha will be determined to join a big club this summer amid interest from Chelsea. In addition, he will feel that this is the last opportunity for him to play for a club competing for major honours. The opportunity to play for Chelsea will be an attractive option for the player, and he is likely to be tempted. The Blues can offer him a lucrative contract as well.

Chelsea have spent around €600 million on new players since their change of ownership and Todd Boehly is expected to spend big money this summer as well. Although Zaha will be a short-term acquisition, the fact that he is available on a free transfer makes it a move worth completing.

The 30-year-old mercurial forward will add pace, flair and goals in the final third and he could help Chelsea compete for trophies next season. Meanwhile, the Blues must look to improve the defensive and midfield options at the end of the season as well.
