Manchester United are reportedly the favourites to sign Victor Osimhen, a target for Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
According to a report by Football Insider, Chelsea might not be able to afford to sign Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window. The Blues need to balance their books and might have to pull away from chasing the Napoli striker. Such a development has left Manchester United in the pole position to sign the Nigerian, a target for PSG.
Victor Osimhen has gone from strength to strength since joining Napoli from LOSC Lille in September 2020. While the 24-year-old experienced teething problems in Naples, he has stepped up considerably since then. And he is now one of the best players in Serie A as he leads the Partenopei to a long-awaited Scudetto.
The Nigerian international has been phenomenal this season and leads the scoring charts in Serie A. He has 26 goals and five assists in 32 appearances across all competitions, with 21 strikes coming in the Italian top flight. And Osimhen’s progress has captured the attention of Manchester United, Chelsea, and PSG.
Manchester United will likely delve into the market for a striker in the summer transfer window. One of the contributing factors to the decision is Anthony Martial’s sub-par form. And while Erik ten Hag has backed Martial, the Frenchman is not repaying his faith. So it behoves Manchester United to scour the market for a striker, with Osimhen a top target.
As for Chelsea, the Blues need to sign a top-class striker after struggling for goals this season. And with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge, they will need a replacement. Osimhen has thus emerged as a viable target for Chelsea. But the West London giants need to balance their books after splashing the cash in the last 12 months. So a move for the 26-goal striker is unlikely.
But that might not be the case for PSG, who can still give Manchester United a run for their money. And amid uncertainties surrounding Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mbappe, the French champions are ready to shell out £133 million to sign the Napoli striker. But the report claims the Red Devils are the front-runners to secure Osimhen’s services.
PSG can still steal a march on Manchester United in the race to sign the Nigerian international. But with the Red Devils taking the lead, it will be interesting to see if they can capitalise on their position. Meanwhile, Napoli will also be eager to secure Osimhen’s immediate future.
