Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing 28-year-old Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic in a €30 million deal.

A report from the Spanish publication SPORT claims that agents of Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic have arrived in London to negotiate a move to Manchester City. And the Blues are willing to part ways with the midfielder for a fee of around €30 million.

The 28-year-old has been a key player for Chelsea since joining the club from Real Madrid, and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for Manchester City as well. The Croatian international is looking for a fresh challenge, and a move to Manchester City would be the ideal next step in his career.

Chelsea are unlikely to play European football next season, and Kovacic will want to compete at the highest level. And the interest from Manchester City makes sense. The Citizens will provide him with the platform to compete for the league title and the UEFA Champions League.

The Premier League champions are expected to lose Ilkay Gundogan at the end of the season. The German international will be out of contract in the summer and is expected to head to Barcelona on a free transfer. Pep Guardiola will have to replace him adequately, and Kovacic could prove to be a superb option.

The 28-year-old is well-settled in the Premier League and could make an immediate impact at the Manchester club. The World Cup semi-finalist will add work ethic, control, and composure in the middle of the park. The Croat is an excellent dribbler as well and will add some much-needed craft and ingenuity to the Manchester City midfield.

Chelsea might lose N’Golo Kante on a free transfer as well. It seems that the Blues will need a midfield overhaul at the end of the season, and it remains to be seen whether they can bring in the necessary replacements for these key players.

Kovacic is in his peak years, and he will be hoping to establish himself as an indispensable asset for Manchester City. He will also look to win major trophies with them. Chelsea are going through a rebuild right now, and they might not be able to compete with the likes of City next season. But it will be interesting to see if a €30 million deal sees the light of day for Kovacic.
