Real Madrid can reportedly secure the services of 23-year-old Chelsea defender Reece James for just €50 million this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet MARCA, Reece James remains a top target for Real Madrid despite a disappointing performance in the UEFA Champions League this week. And the Chelsea star might be available for just €50 million. The Blues need to balance their books and might have to take a hit on the 23-year-old’s price tag.

Reece James has been one of the best full-backs in the Premier League since breaking into the Chelsea first team. The English international is one of several academy graduates to benefit from Frank Lampard’s short tenure at Stamford Bridge. And he is now a pivotal figure for Chelsea.

The 23-year-old has endured fitness nightmares this season and has not hit top form thus far. But he has a decent tally of two goals and two assists in 22 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, James’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid among his prospective suitors.

The Merengues are in the market for a right-back amid Dani Carvajal’s inconsistencies. The Spanish international has blown hot and cold after recovering from persistent injury troubles. And with Carvajal on the wrong side of 30, Real Madrid must plan for life after the veteran right-back.

In addition, Lucas Vazquez has not been dependable enough this season, while Alvaro Odriozola is not in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans. So it behoves Real Madrid to sign a right-back this season. And Chelsea defender Reece James has reportedly emerged on Los Blancos’ radar.

Recent reports suggested Real Madrid might wait for some time before launching the offensive. But they might get an opportunity to sign James from Chelsea this season. That is because the Blues need to balance their books after spending freely in the last two transfer windows. And the report claims the 23-year-old might be available for just €50 million.

The price tag of €50 million seems absurd, considering James’s contract will end in 2028. And with the 23-year-old open to remaining at Chelsea beyond the summer, a deal might not see the light of day. But it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid can hash out an agreement in the coming months.
