Chelsea defender Reece James has reportedly been linked with a move to Real Madrid heading into the summer transfer window.

A report from Defensa Central claims that Real Madrid are looking to bring in quality full-backs at the end of the season. And Reece James is reportedly a target for them. Apparently, the player would be delighted to play for Real Madrid if given the opportunity. But he wants to continue at Chelsea for now.

The defender dreams of playing for Real Madrid one day. And it will be interesting to see if the Spanish club decide to make a move for him in the coming months. The player has reportedly told his agent that he will play for Real Madrid if he leaves Chelsea in the future.

Dani Carvajal is in his twilight years, and Real Madrid will have to bring in an upgrade soon. James has been an important player for Chelsea, and he has proven his quality in the Premier League and the Champions league.

The Chelsea defender is undoubtedly one of the best players in his position and he has emerged as a top target for Real Madrid. Apart from operating as a wing-back and a full-back, the Chelsea defender can play as the right-sided centre-back in a back three as well.

His versatility will be an added bonus for Carlo Ancelotti, who will be able to use him in different systems. James has had a difficult season this year because of persistent injury problems, and it remains to be seen whether he can get back to his best soon.

The player is still quite young and has the potential to develop into a world-class footballer in the coming seasons. Real Madrid would do well to secure his services. But Chelsea are not in need of money despite the looming Financial Fair Play issues. And they are hoping to put together a formidable squad themselves capable of winning the major trophies.

It is highly unlikely that Real Madrid will be able to tempt the London club with a lucrative offer. And it might come down to the player in the end. James will probably have to force a move for any transfer to go through in the upcoming window.

The talented young defender is a boyhood Chelsea fan and is unlikely to burn bridges in order to leave Stamford Bridge anytime soon. It is fair to assume that Real Madrid will have to wait to sign the player in the near future.
