Chelsea might soon launch the offensive to sign 19-year-old Barcelona prospect Alejandro Balde, whose market value is €30 million.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alejandro Balde is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are ready to make a move for the 19-year-old Barcelona prospect. Meanwhile, the youngster’s market value has been rising and currently stands at €30 million.

Alejandro Balde is one of several youngsters who have benefitted from the financial issues plaguing Barcelona. The Catalan giants have not been able to spend heavy sums to secure the services of world-class players. So they have to depend on several young prospects apart from resorting to the free-agent market.

The 19-year-old is a graduate of the fabled La Masia academy and has become the first-choice left-back this season. Balde has chipped in with six assists in 35 appearances thus far. At the same time, his market value has risen to €30 million. And the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Chelsea among his prospective suitors.

Chelsea’s interest in the Spanish international is perplexing. That is because the West London club signed Marc Cucurella last summer. And while the former Barcelona defender has not set the stage alight this season, he is a long-term investment that can pay off handsomely in the coming years.

Meanwhile, Ben Chilwell has bounced back well from his recent injury nightmares. So it is unclear how Balde might fit into the scheme of things at Chelsea. Nonetheless, the Blues are ready to launch the offensive for the 19-year-old Barcelona prospect.

But signing the teenage sensation will not be straightforward. That is because recent reports have claimed that the youngster is on the verge of signing a new deal with Barcelona. And even if the Catalan giants were to sell Balde, they would demand much more than his market value of €30 million.

Nonetheless, Balde signing a new contract with Barcelona might be the best thing for all parties. Considering Chelsea will have more pressing needs, they should focus on strengthening other areas. But it will be interesting to see how Barcelona will respond to a potential bid from Chelsea.
