Barcelona will reportedly prioritise the contract renewal of 19-year-old Spanish international Alejandro Balde, a target for Chelsea.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Alejandro Balde is the subject of interest from Chelsea. But Barcelona will not entertain any offers from suitors for the 19-year-old Spanish international. And the Catalan giants are prioritising sealing a contract renewal with the youngster.
Alejandro Balde began his youth career at CE Sant Gabriel before joining RCD Espanyol. But he rose to prominence after moving to Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy. And after rising through the ranks in Barcelona’s youth division, he broke into the first-team squad in September 2021.
But the 19-year-old had to bide his time before becoming a regular, which has happened this term. Balde has been the first-choice left-back for Barcelona this season, chipping in with six assists in 33 appearances. And he has also broken into the Spanish national squad. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has captured the attention of several top clubs, including Chelsea.
It is unclear why Chelsea might want to sign Balde or any other left-back, for that matter. Graham Potter already has two options at his disposal for the position. And with Ben Chilwell regaining fitness and performing at a high level, the Blues do not need another left-back.
In addition, former Barcelona defender Marc Cucurella has been gradually improving in the last few weeks. So it is unclear how Balde will fit into the scheme of things. Nonetheless, the 19-year-old Spanish international is a top target for Chelsea, who will look to launch the offensive in the summer.
But Barcelona will not entertain any offers for the teenage sensation in the summer transfer window. And the Catalan giants are prioritising sealing a contract renewal agreement with Balde. Meanwhile, recent reports have suggested that the Chelsea target will sign a new deal with Barcelona.
The report from SPORT claims that discussions between Barcelona and Balde are progressing well. But it will be interesting to see if Chelsea can turn the player’s head. For now, the 19-year-old Spanish international looks set to sign a new contract with Barcelona.
