Dani Ceballos recently rebuffed an approach from Atletico Madrid as he wants to stay at Real Madrid beyond the summer.

According to a report by The Athletic, Dani Ceballos snubbed an enquiry by Atletico Madrid during the international break. The Spanish midfielder has made his intentions clear and wants to stay at Real Madrid beyond the summer transfer window.

Dani Ceballos arrived at Real Madrid as one of the most promising young midfielders in his homeland. The 26-year-old had several bigwigs chasing his signature before he chose Real Madrid. But his stint with Los Blancos has not gone as planned as he has been a backup player. And that is hardly surprising, considering Luka Modric and Toni Kroos’s exploits.

In addition, the Spaniard spent two seasons on loan with Arsenal, with the spell producing mixed results. But Ceballos has slowly grown in stature since returning to Real Madrid and has made some handy contributions this term. The player has one goal and six assists in 32 appearances thus far. But his Real Madrid contract will expire in the summer transfer window.

Ceballos is yet to sign on the dotted line, meaning he might leave Real Madrid as a free agent. But recent reports have suggested that the reigning La Liga champions want to tie him to a new deal. Meanwhile, the Spanish international has emerged as a target for Atletico Madrid.

The Colchoneros are in the market for a midfield reinforcement heading into the summer transfer window. That is because Saul Niguez faces an uncertain future at the Civitas Metropolitano after seeing his stock plummet in the last few years. In addition, Thomas Lemar might leave Atletico Madrid in the coming months.

Ceballos has thus emerged as a viable target for Atletico Madrid. And Los Rojiblancos recently approached the Spaniard’s entourage during the international break. But the player has rejected their enquiry as he wants to remain at Real Madrid beyond the summer transfer window.
