Barcelona will reportedly refuse to cough up €15 million to sign veteran defender Thomas Meunier from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Thomas Meunier is a top target for Barcelona. And Borussia Dortmund will demand €15 million to sell the veteran Belgian defender in the summer transfer window. But the Catalan giants are not ready to fork out the sum to sign him from the Bundesliga club.

Thomas Meunier has blown hot and cold since joining Borussia Dortmund from Paris Saint-Germain in July 2020. The 31-year-old has been in and out of the side, failing to establish himself as a regular for the Bundesliga club. But he continues to feature prominently for his national team.

Meanwhile, the Belgian international has started less than half of Dortmund’s games this season. Meunier has managed a shade over 1,000 minutes of game time in 16 appearances thus far. But despite the veteran defender’s travails, he has a few clubs keenly chasing him, one of those being Barcelona.

The Catalan giants hold a long-standing interest in Meunier, even attempting to sign him in the two transfer windows last year. But a move never materialised, with Barcelona failing to bring Borussia Dortmund to the table. However, the Bundesliga giants might finally be ready to part ways with the veteran defender.

The 31-year-old does not feature prominently in Edin Terzic’s plans and has not made it to the big games. So a summer departure might be on the card. And Barcelona might look to pounce on the situation after recently submitting an enquiry for him. However, Dortmund’s asking price might pose a problem.

Barcelona’s financial woes have not disappeared, and they need to balance the books before signing players. In addition, Joan Laporta is keen on bringing Lionel Messi back to Barcelona this summer. So Dortmund’s price tag of €15 million is not an ideal payment for Barcelona.

The Catalan giants desperately need a right-back and end their long search for Dani Carvajal’s successor. But Barcelona will refuse to fork out €15 million to sign the Borussia Dortmund defender. So it will be interesting to see if the Bundesliga giants are ready to lower their price demands.
