Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is reportedly a priority target for Chelsea heading into the summer transfer window.

A report from Football Insider claims that Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is a huge admirer of Frenkie de Jong. And he wants to bring the 25-year-old Barcelona midfielder to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

Frenkie de Jong has been linked with the move to the Premier League for months now. And Manchester United were close to signing him at the start of the season. The Red Devils are reportedly keen on signing the player at the end of this season as well. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea can beat the competition from their Premier League rivals and secure his services.

The Barcelona midfielderr is undoubtedly one of the best players in his position and could prove to be a sensational acquisition for Chelsea. The Blues desperately need midfield reinforcements after the departure of Jorginho. Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante have been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge as well. But while the duo will unlikely leave, a new midfielder is necessary.

Chelsea spent a club-record fee on Enzo Fernandez during the January transfer window, and they will need to bring in a reliable partner for him now. The 25-year-old Barcelona midfielder seems like an ideal fit. And it is hardly surprising that de Jong has emerged on Chelsea’s radar.

Chelsea have spent in excess of £600 million since the takeover and are plotting another ambitious summer transfer window. Strengthening the midfield and the attack should be their top priority heading into the summer transfer window.

The Blues have struggled to create too many opportunities this season, and the attackers have looked dull in front of goal. Adding a bit of cutting edge in the final third and some control in the middle of the park could transform them into genuine title contenders next season.

De Jong has been a key player for Barcelona, and it remains to be seen whether the Catalan giants are prepared to cash in on him. The 25-year-old Dutch midfielder is entering his peak years and could be an important player for Chelsea in the coming seasons. For now, he has emerged as the priority target for the west London club.

However, the Blues are unlikely to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, which could be a damaging blow for them in the pursuit of the Dutch international. A player of de Jong’s quality will want to play in the Champions League, and his other suitors might be able to provide them with that platform.
