Manchester United will have to break the bank and pay £70 million for the services of Tammy Abraham, a target for Chelsea.

According to a report by Football Insider, Manchester United will have to pay £70 million for AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham. The 25-year-old has had an impressive time ever since moving to Italy. And his performances have not gone unnoticed, with Chelsea also keen on signing him.

Abraham has attracted a lot of attention on the back of his performances for Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma. The 25-year-old has featured in 87 matches for the Italian club and has 44 goal contributions to his name. He has found the back of the net on 34 occasions while playing for Roma.

The England international played an integral part in Roma winning the UEFA Europa Conference League last season with nine goals. He joined Mourinho’s team back in the summer of 2021 from Chelsea for £34 million. The former Blues striker has done a great job since then, and the interest in his services from across Europe is understandable.

Manchester United are one of the clubs that would love to have him in their ranks. The Red Devils have done a great job under new manager Erik ten Hag. They are third in the Premier League and are all set to return to the UEFA Champions League next season.

Despite their heroics in the ongoing season, they do have a lot to worry about. The striker position is ten Hag’s biggest headache at this point in time. The Dutch manager is desperate to add a star striker ahead of next season, with Anthony Martial struggling with injuries and Wout Weghorst set to return to his parent club after the end of the season.

While scoring goals has not been a problem for ten Hag’s team thanks to Marcus Rashford, the Dutch manager is keen on bringing in someone who can share the load with Rashford. Manchester United have identified quite a few top-class strikers as possible targets. Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and Tottenham striker Harry Kane are two big names on their radar.

The Red Devils will have to pay over £100 million for either of them. Amid financial struggles due to talks of a takeover, it looks unlikely that they will break the bank. As a result, they could opt for Tammy Abraham who will be available for £70 million.

However, they will have to fight it out with Chelsea for Abraham. The Blues want to bring the England international back to the club. They are in need of a new number nine and could push for him. Chelsea have a buy-back clause in his contract. But it will be interesting to see if they decide to trigger it, given their main target for the summer is to make Joao Felix’s loan move a permanent one.
