Real Madrid will reportedly prioritise signing Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United this summer instead of Jude Bellingham.

According to a report by Football Insider, Bruno Guimaraes has become the priority target for Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions view the 25-year-old Newcastle United midfielder as the top candidate to bolster the midfield unit in the summer transfer window instead of Jude Bellingham.

Bruno Guimaraes has set the Premier League alight since joining Newcastle United over twelve months ago. The Brazilian international was the first major signing for the Magpies under their new ownership. And he took no time to establish himself as a pivotal figure, masterminding their rise in the PL.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed an excellent 2022/23 season thus far, chipping in with four goals and three assists in 26 appearances thus far. And Bruno Guimaraes’s progress at Newcastle United has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid.

Real Madrid first showed interest in Guimaraes in the summer transfer window last year. But Newcastle United did not entertain any bids for the 25-year-old, who did not want to leave either. However, the Merengues have been continuing to monitor the progress of the player this season. And recent reports claimed he was an alternative to top target Jude Bellingham.

But the English international is also a target for several other European bigwigs, including Liverpool. Recent reports also claimed that Real Madrid did not want to break the bank for Bellingham. And Real Madrid’s latest move has handed Liverpool a boost in the race to sign the Borussia Dortmund midfielder.

That is because the report claims that Bruno Guimaraes has become the top target for Real Madrid to bolster the midfield unit. And the 25-year-old has the quality to be Luka Modric’s long-term successor. Even though he has primarily played as a holding midfielder for Newcastle United, he is a multi-faceted midfielder.

But it is unclear if the Brazilian international wants to leave Newcastle United in the summer. In addition, the Magpies will likely resist selling Guimaraes only 18 months into their project. So it will be interesting to see if a summer move to Real Madrid sees the light of day.
