Newcastle United have made an approach for Adrien Rabiot

Newcastle United makes an approach for Adrien Rabiot over a simmer move, with the French midfielder set to depart Juventus as a free agent.

According to Calcio Mercato, Newcastle United have approached to sign Adrien Rabiot in the summer. The 27-year-old World Cup finalist is a free agent after the season ends, as he is unlikely to stay at Juventus beyond June.

Adrien Rabiot represents a select group of valuable players available on a free transfer when the season ends. Juventus would rue their luck with the midfielder, who is enjoying his best season since joining the Turin giants.

While the club are unlikely to have a chance to renew his deal, Juventus tried hard to sell him back in the summer. Rabiot was very close to joining Manchester United, only for his demands to scupper a move to Old Trafford. He had some big clubs interested in January but decided to stay put and finish the season with the Bianconeri.

Rabiot continues to demand a huge wage packet to sign for a new club. Some reports suggested that Arsenal backed out of a possible deal in January due to those requests. The story suggests the 27-year-old World Cup finalist wants in excess of €10 million per season after taxes.

Only a handful of clubs can afford that kind of pay package. Newcastle United are among those, with the Magpies keen on the 27-year-old World Cup finalist. Eddie Howe is keen on a new midfielder to add a different dimension to his side.

The Magpies are intent on making a big signing next summer. Hence they could make do with a free agent of Rabiot’s quality. The 27-year-old comes in with tremendous experience; at Newcastle, he could complement Bruno Guimaraes. He also fits the profile of a midfielder the manager may want. Hence signing him would make sense.

Rabiot is not in a hurry to decide his next move. In fact, he could wait until the season ends while evaluating offers on the table. While Newcastle United are a club on the rise, he might also wait to see if some traditional big clubs come in for his signature.
