Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing up a huge move for a new midfielder in the summer to complement Bruno Guimaraes.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United are plotting a big-money move for a new midfielder in the summer. Eddie Howe wants to bring in a new holding midfielder to complement Bruno Guimaraes and use the Brazilian in a different role from next season.

Newcastle United have completed three transfer windows by spending decently and bringing the essential players to bolster their squad. Since their takeover concluded, the Magpies have not been careless about their financial muscle. Instead, they have recruited smartly.

Every club building a solid squad cable of challenging in the future needs a transformational signing. Bruno Guimaraes was that player who elevated the squad’s overall quality and propelled them to greater heights.

The Brazilian has helped Newcastle United to the fourth spot on the table. But his absence has cost the club points. The Magpies have dropped points in the five games the Brazilian has not featured. While his importance in Howe’s system is clear, the manager wants to add a new layer to the midfielder’s game.

Howe intends to move Guimaraes further up the field and sign a new holding midfielder to complement the Brazilian. Hence, Newcastle United are planning to splash heavily on a single player in the summer window, with a host of names currently on their list.

Ruben Neves is a possible target, but other clubs are vying for the Wolves midfielder. While he will prove an efficient option, Newcastle may have him on the list of alternatives. They might prefer to sign one of Moises Caicedo or Declan Rice as a priority.

There is definite interest in Rice, and West Ham United’s asking price may not prove to be a stumbling block. The big hurdle in the way is the interest of other high-profile clubs in the midfielder, with Arsenal leading the way for the England international.

If the Gunners win the league, then the chances of them signing Rice are higher. Either way, the prospect of staying in London and challenging for titles will appeal to the England international. In such a scenario, Newcastle United will not prefer to waste time and move on to alternate targets.

Either way, the Magpies are keen on a new midfielder as a partner to Guimaraes and remain open to spending huge on that one player. Who that might remain the question, but Newcastle United have not had bad signings in the last three windows.
