Newcastle United will battle it out with Manchester United and Liverpool for the signature of Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves.

According to a report by Fichajes, Newcastle United have entered the race to sign Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer. The Portuguese midfielder has been performing at a high level for the past few seasons. And a lot of clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester United, across Europe have their eyes set on him.

The 25-year-old midfielder’s contract at Wolves ends in the summer of 2024. With around 18 months left on his contract at the club, he is likely to leave. Ruben Neves has been a key figure for his team in the Premier League for a while. But they might not be left with an option to keep him at the club amidst a lot of interest from elsewhere.

Neves joined Wolverhampton Wanderers back in the summer of 2017. And since then, he has had an immense impact on their squad. He has featured in over 200 matches for Wolves, raking in 41 goal contributions. In the ongoing season, he has played 26 matches.

Manchester United and Liverpool have been interested in signing Neves for a while now. But they will now face competition from the richest club in the Premier League, Newcastle United. The Magpies will be looking to bolster their midfield in the summer. They have a long list of players that they will target. And, the Portuguese midfielder is part of that list.

Newcastle are currently in the top four of the English top flight. Their recent transfers have worked out well. And, now they want to add a few more world-class players to push for the title next season. Eddie Howe wants to add more stability to his midfield and as result is keen on signing Neves.

The 25-year-old will help Newcastle have more ball control and composure in the middle of the park. His long-range shots will give the Magpies an x-factor. Apart from that, the Magpies will have quality squad depth which will help them if they manage to hold onto the Champions League spot.

But, it is not going to be easy for the Magpies to sign Neves. Barcelona are also interested in bringing the 25-year-old to Camp Nou. Xavi believes the Portuguese midfielder is an ideal candidate to replace Sergio Busquets. In addition, Liverpool and Manchester United remain in the equation. So it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in the transfer tussle to sign Neves.
