According to a report by Fichajes, Newcastle United are set to push for the signature of West Ham United skipper Declan Rice in the summer. Rice is a highly sought-after player, and a lot of clubs are interested in having him at their disposal. The Magpies have joined Arsenal and are keen on landing the 24-year-old at the club before next season.

Ever since the takeover, Newcastle United have been doing great business in the transfer windows. They have already assembled a squad capable enough of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. But, they are not going to stop here. They have their eyes set on Declan Rice as they look to build a team that can win major trophies.

The Magpies are currently fourth in the Premier League and are having an absolutely sensational season. Eddie Howe’s team is likely to finish in the top four which will give them a pass to enter into Europe’s biggest club tournament, the UEFA Champions League.

Declan Rice joined the West Ham academy back in the summer of 2013 from Chelsea. He has come through the ranks at the east London club and is currently their captain. The 24-year-old is their most important figure, having made 222 appearances for the club.

In order to compete with the best teams across Europe, they will have to add more quality to their squad. As a result, Newcastle want to add Declan Rice to their team. He will increase their squad depth, allow the manager to rotate the midfield, and still be capable enough to win day in and day out. Rice’s arrival will also ensure that they dictate the pace of the game, and his defensive awareness will give their defensive side of things a lift.

Newcastle United are not the only team that are interested in signing the 24-year-old. Arsenal have been keen on signing the England international for a while now. Mikel Arteta wants to add more quality to his squad as they prepare to return to Europe’s premier tournament, the Champions League. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this transfer battle.
