La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing 23-year-old Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot.

According to a report by Spanish outlet AS, Diogo Dalot is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are closely monitoring the contract situation of the 23-year-old Manchester United defender.

Diogo Dalot joined Manchester United from FC Porto in July 2018 as a prodigious teenage prospect. The 23-year-old earned rave reviews from Jose Mourinho, who labelled him as an elite full-back. But he took some time to establish a foothold in the Manchester United first-team squad. However, he has been the first-choice right-back since returning from a loan stint with AC Milan.

The Portuguese international has also gradually risen in stature on the international stage. And Dalot has turned out 25 times across all competitions this season, chipping in with a goal and three assists. The player’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Real Madrid among his prospective suitors.

Real Madrid will look to sign a right-back in the summer transfer window amid Dani Carvajal’s waning levels. The Spaniard has suffered due to injuries in the last few years. In addition, Lucas Vazquez has blown hot and cold this season, while Alvaro Odriozola does not feature in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans.

The reigning La Liga champions have thus shown interest in several right-backs, including Denzel Dumfries. But Dalot is also a viable target for Real Madrid. Widespread reports a few months ago suggested that Real Madrid looked to scout the Manchester United defender at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Los Blancos would not have been disappointed as the 23-year-old usurped Joao Cancelo on the international stage. In addition, Dalot has been going from strength to strength while representing Manchester United. And with the player’s contract running out in less than 18 months, Real Madrid might launch the offensive for the Portuguese international.

Dalot has also been a target for Barcelona. But the 23-year-old has shown the inclination to sign a new contract with Manchester United. However, it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid’s emergence in the equation changes things. For now, he seems likely to sign a renewal with Manchester United.
