Real Madrid will reportedly run the rule over Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Real Madrid will have scouts present to monitor the performances of various targets at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. One of these players will be Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot, who will represent Portugal in the coming month.

Diogo Dalot has started to justify the hype created by Jose Mourinho when he joined Manchester United from FC Porto over four years ago. The Portuguese international took some time to get going but has become a top performer for the Red Devils this season. And he has played every game for Manchester United thus far.

The 23-year-old has chipped in with one goal and two assists in 20 appearances thus far this term. But Dalot is in the final few months of his contract, although Manchester United can trigger a one-year extension option. Nonetheless, such a situation has captured the attention of several clubs, including Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will likely enter the market for a right-back next summer due to Dani Carvajal’s inconsistencies. The Spaniard has been the undisputed first-choice right-back for Los Blancos for several years. But fitness issues have impacted his performances, and he has blown hot and cold in the past year.

In addition, Alvaro Odriozola does not feature in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans, while Lucas Vazquez has not been consistent enough. So Real Madrid will need to delve into the market for a right-back next year. And Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has emerged as a viable target for the Merengues.

The report claims that Real Madrid will run the rule over the Portuguese international at the World Cup. Portugal’s World Cup campaign begins on Thursday with a game against Ghana. But Dalot might not feature for Fernando Santos’s side, with Joao Cancelo being the first-choice right-back.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid might not succeed in pursuing the 23-year-old either. That is because Manchester United will look to tie Dalot to a new contract, with the player also committed to the Red Devils. But it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid can turn Dalot’s head with an approach.
