Chelsea talks with Mason Mount collapse

Mason Mount has reportedly seen talks with Chelsea over a new contract break down amid links with Liverpool.

According to Football Insider, Chelsea are hoping to secure an extension with 24-year-old playmaker Mason Mount. But the two parties are far from reaching an agreement. The report further adds that Liverpool are hoping to sign the player when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.

Mason Mount is a boyhood Chelsea fan, and he will be hoping to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge. However, the England international wants to be paid as much as the other important first-team players. And it remains to be seen whether Chelsea are prepared to accept his wage demands. He earns around £80,000 a week at the London club right now.

The 24-year-old midfielder has established himself as one of the most promising playmakers in the Premier League, and he has a big future ahead of him. Mount has all the attributes to develop into a top-class player in the future and he could prove to be a sensational acquisition for Liverpool.

Chelsea must do everything in their power to stop him from joining a direct rival. And the Blues should look to extend his contract as soon as possible. Meanwhile, recent reports have claimed that Todd Boehly is personally overseeing talks over a new contract.

Chelsea need more quality and depth in their midfield. And letting Mount leave the club in the near future could prove to be a poor decision. But talks between Chelsea and the 24-year-old have stalled amid interest from Liverpool.

Although the England international has not been at his best under Graham Potter so far, he has the ability to bounce back strongly and establish himself as an indispensable player for the Blues. The 24-year-old was Chelsea’s best player last season, and he managed to pick up 13 goals and 16 assists across all competitions.

Mount can operate as a winger as well as a central midfielder. His versatility makes him a hugely important player for the Blues and Chelsea cannot afford to lose him just yet. But those qualities will also make him a good fit in Jurgen Klopp’s squad at Liverpool. The player is yet to reach his peak, and he will only get better with game time and experience. It will be interesting to see if talks can progress again.
