Todd Boehly could get involved in negotiations with Mason Mount, a Liverpool target, to tie down the midfielder to a long-term contract.

Simon Phillips has told Give Me Sport that Chelsea have stepped up their efforts to extend the contract of Mason Mount at the club. The attacking midfielder, a target for Liverpool, is yet to agree on new terms, and the Blues have not come closer to his demands.

Mason Mount remains one of the key stars in this Chelsea squad. He represents one of the jewels of the Cobham academy alongside Reece James. Alongside the right-back, Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Trevoh Chalobah, the attacking midfielder is a part of the first-team squad.

Mount’s contract runs out in 18 months, meaning Chelsea are more than desperate to extend his stay beyond 2024. So far, the Blues have not reached an agreement with the England international, with reports suggesting they have not come close to the player’s demands.

The £80,000-a-week star reportedly wants to treble his salary. But Chelsea have not offered him anything close to that figure. Yet, the Blues are confident of agreeing on new terms in the next phase. And Mount could sign a new deal imminently, per the reports.

Journalist Simon Phillips insists co-owner Todd Boehly is personally involved in contract talks with Mount and leading the talks to find an agreement. Phillips said, “I’m told that Todd Boehly is personally involved in this one, and he’s the one leading the talks. Chelsea are keen to get it done, obviously, but they want it closer to their terms. It just remains to be seen if they can meet somewhere in the middle.”

The co-owner’s involvement shows Chelsea are desperate to see Mount stay, especially with clubs like Liverpool chasing the England international. Jurgen Klopp is a huge fan of the Englishman and could approach the attacking midfielder.

Watching one of their key stars join a rival will be a big blow for Chelsea and their plans. Phillips remains confident Chelsea will find the middle ground in reaching an agreement with Mount. And he recently revealed N’Golo Kante is also inching closer to signing a new contract.

Whether Chelsea agree to Mount’s demands remains the question. But they will make a reasonable proposal. Amid all the spending on new players, The £80,000-a-week Liverpool target represents a key figure in the squad, one the Blues will be desperate to hold on to.
