According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Joao Felix is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions have identified the 23-year-old forward as a successor to Karim Benzema. Chelsea might also look to sign him permanently from Atletico Madrid once his loan deal ends.
Joao Felix has endured a drop in stature since joining Atletico Madrid from Benfica a few years ago. The Portuguese international was one of the most highly sought-after prodigies in the market when he left Benfica. But Diego Simeone’s system has not suited him in the last few seasons.
The 23-year-old grew increasingly frustrated at Civitas Metropolitano this season before joining Chelsea on loan last month. And Felix has had an eventful start to life as a Chelsea player. He saw red on his debut for the Blues before scoring in his return game this weekend. And the player’s situation has captured the attention of Real Madrid.
Real Madrid will enter the market for at least one offensive reinforcement in the summer transfer window. The crux of the situation is the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio. The duo’s departure will force Real Madrid to delve into the market for a wide attacker.
But the Merengues are also considering signing a striker amid Karim Benzema’s fitness issues. The Real Madrid captain has missed numerous games due to niggling concerns this term. And with Mariano Diaz not featuring in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans, Los Blancos will need to invest in a striker.
