Barcelona plotting Joao Felix swoop

Barcelona will reportedly attempt to sign Joao Felix, currently on loan at Chelsea, from Atletico Madrid in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Joao Felix is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants have initiated contact with Atletico Madrid for the Portuguese international. The player is currently on loan at Chelsea but is open to joining Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

Joao Felix rose to prominence at Benfica before sealing a big move to Atletico Madrid in July 2019. But the stint with Los Rojiblancos has not been successful as he has blown hot and cold. Diego Simeone’s tactics have not helped the 23-year-old either. And he joined Chelsea on a loan deal for the rest of the season this month.

The Portuguese international made an inauspicious start to his Chelsea stint, seeing red on debut. But Felix’s stock remains high across Europe, with several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona, interested in him. And with the player unlikely to continue at Atletico Madrid beyond this season, a deal might be on the cards.

Barcelona will look to continue the squad overhaul under Xavi Hernandez in the summer transfer window. And after having no funds to improve the squad this month, the Blaugrana will be eager to make amends in the summer. And Barcelona will likely attempt to reinforce the offensive unit later this year.

Ferran Torres and Raphinha face uncertain futures at Spotify Camp Nou, while Memphis Depay has joined Atletico Madrid. So Xavi will have at least one vacancy to fill in the offensive department. And Joao Felix has emerged as a viable target for Barcelona.

The Catalan giants have already established contact with Atletico Madrid for the 23-year-old. And the Portuguese international is keen on joining Barcelona once his stint with Chelsea ends. But it is unclear if Chelsea will look to sign Felix permanently, beating Barcelona to his signature.

Atletico Madrid will likely demand a premium to part ways with the youngster, considering his deal runs until June 30, 2027. And it will be interesting to see if Barcelona will have enough funds to steal Felix from Chelsea in the summer.
