Barcelona will reportedly face stiff competition from Serie A giants Inter Milan for 26-year-old Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Benjamin Pavard is the subject of interest from Inter Milan. The Serie A giants have joined Barcelona in the race to sign the 26-year-old World Cup winner from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.

Benjamin Pavard has garnered tremendous success in his career before even reaching his peak. The French international was a World Cup winner with Les Bleus as a 22-year-old. And he won several trophies since joining Bayern Munich from VfB Stuttgart in July 2019.

The 26-year-old has been one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga for several years. And the player has turned out 143 times thus far for Bayern Munich, chipping in with nine goals and 11 assists. But he is keen on embarking on a new adventure in the summer transfer window. And Pavard’s situation has captured the attention of Barcelona and Inter Milan.

Barcelona will enter the market for a right-back in the summer transfer window. With Hector Bellerin joining Sporting CP, Xavi Hernandez does not have a natural right-back at his disposal. So the Barcelona manager will need to use Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo, and Sergi Roberto on the right flank.

Pavard has thus emerged as a viable target for Barcelona. And the 26-year-old’s situation makes him appealing on the financial front, as Bayern Munich cannot demand a premium. On the other hand, Inter Milan will look to tempt the French defender by handing him a centre-back role next season.

Pavard’s biggest grievance at Bayern Munich is that he cannot play as a centre-back. But with Milan Skriniar closing in on joining Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan will need a replacement. And the Serie A giants view the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner as a potential solution to their woes.

But recent reports have claimed that the 26-year-old is keen on joining Barcelona in the summer. And it will be interesting to see if the Blaugrana can beat Inter Milan to Pavard’s signature. For now, the Serie A giants have emerged in the race to sign the Frenchman from Bayern Munich.
