La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly contacted the representatives of 26-year-old Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Benjamin Pavard is a top target for FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants have already contacted the 26-year-old World Cup winner and will look to sign him from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.

Benjamin Pavard has gone from strength to strength in the last half a decade, apart from a blip at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Frenchman was a pivotal figure for France when Les Bleus won the 2018 World Cup. And he has been a regular for Bayern Munich since arriving from VfB Stuttgart in July 2019.

The 26-year-old has turned out 140 times thus far for Bayern, chipping in with nine goals and 11 assists. But Pavard will likely leave the Bundesliga champions in the summer transfer window to embark on a new adventure. And such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona.

Barcelona’s search for a long-term heir to Dani Alves has been never-ending. The Brazilian legend left the Catalan club over half a dozen years ago. Since then, he rejoined them to be their best right-back since his first stint at Spotify Camp Nou. And with Alves no longer at the club, Barcelona will look to sign a long-term right-back solution.

Hector Bellerin joined Barcelona on deadline day in the summer transfer window but has failed to make his mark. The Spanish international has been so poor that Xavi Hernandez has preferred Alejandro Balde as a makeshift right-back over him. And Bellerin will likely leave Barcelona as a free agent this summer.

So the Blaugrana will need to enter the market for a right-back again, with Pavard emerging as a target. And the Catalan giants have contacted the 26-year-old World Cup winner’s entourage over a summer move. In addition, Fabrizio Romano has suggested that the Frenchman is a top target for Barcelona.

Pavard’s contract with Bayern Munich will expire in less than 18 months. So he might be available for a cut-price fee in the summer transfer window. That aligns with Barcelona’s miserly budget, and it will be interesting to see if the 26-year-old World Cup winner arrives at Camp Nou this year.
