Premier League heavyweights Chelsea are reportedly considering signing Franck Kessie from Barcelona this month.

According to a report by Daily Telegraph, Franck Kessie has popped up on the radar of Chelsea. The Blues are mulling over approaching Barcelona for a short-term move for the struggling Ivorian midfielder in the January transfer window.

Franck Kessie joined Barcelona after a successful stint with AC Milan. The 26-year-old spent half a decade with the Rossoneri before departing as a free agent last summer. But Kessie’s spell with FC Barcelona has not been a resounding success thus far, as he has been a bit-part player for the Blaugrana.

The Ivory Coast international has managed only 754 minutes of game time for Barcelona across 18 outings. And Kessie’s Barcelona future is not set in stone amid widespread rumours surrounding him. Meanwhile, the player’s situation at Spotify Camp Nou has captured the attention of Chelsea.

Chelsea will look to bolster the midfield unit in the ongoing transfer window. The west Londoners are struggling to no end midway through the season and need multiple reinforcements. Mykhaylo Mudryk has already beefed up the attack, with Noni Madueke on the verge of joining Chelsea. And they will now set their sights on signing a new midfielder this month.

Several midfielders have emerged on Chelsea’s radar, with Moises Caicedo being the top target. But the Brighton & Hove Albion ace might not be an achievable candidate for Chelsea due to his price tag. In addition, the Seagulls are reluctant to part ways with the Ecuadorian international. So the Blues need to set their sights on alternatives for Caicedo.

Yves Bissouma and Franck Kessie have thus popped up on Chelsea’s wishlist. And the Blues have already failed with an enquiry for the former. So Chelsea might consider signing the struggling Barcelona midfielder on a short-term deal. And the wording of the story suggests a loan offer for Barcelona might be on the cards.

But according to Mundo Deportivo, Kessie does not want to leave Barcelona in the January transfer window. The Ivory Coast international wants to fight for his place in Xavi Hernandez’s squad. So Chelsea will need to scour the market for an alternative to the 26-year-old.
