La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing 28-year-old Argentine international Joaquin Correa from Inter Milan.

According to Argentine journalist Gaston Edul, Joaquin Correa is the subject of interest from FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants want to sign the 18-year-old Inter Milan attacker in the January transfer window. But a winter move might be unlikely as Memphis Depay does not want to move to San Siro.

Joaquin Correa has been a journeyman in his decade-long professional career at the club level. The Argentine international rose to prominence at Estudiantes before moving to Europe by joining Sampdoria in January 2015. But his stint with the Serie A outfit lasted only 18 months before he moved to Sevilla. And the player finally found a stable footing after switching to Lazio in 2018.

The 28-year-old went from strength to strength under the tutelage of Simone Inzaghi before reuniting with the Italian at Inter Milan 18 months ago. But Correa has blown hot and cold at San Siro, managing only three goals and three assists in 21 outings thus far this term. However, he recently won the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina. In addition, the player has emerged as a target for Barcelona.

Barcelona will enter the market for an offensive reinforcement in the ongoing transfer window. That is because Memphis Depay faces an uncertain future at Spotify Camp Nou amid links with Atletico Madrid. So Barcelona will need to scour the market for a replacement for the Dutchman.

Correa has thus emerged as a viable target for Barcelona due to his versatility. The 28-year-old can play across the frontline, making him an attractive prospect. And with Barcelona not having an alternative to Robert Lewandowski, Correa is an option worth considering.

According to Gaston Edul, the Catalan giants are keen on signing the 28-year-old World Cup winner. But contrary to recent reports, Barcelona will unlikely use Depay in a deal for Correa. And the Dutchman will not join Inter Milan either after giving the green light to join Atletico Madrid.

Amid the never-ending financial distress, it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can afford a cash deal for Correa. But a January deal seems unlikely unless Barcelona can engineer an exchange for the 28-year-old World Cup winner.
