Barcelona and Inter Milan are negotiating a potential swap deal for Marcelo Brozovic, with the Blaugrana offering Franck Kessie.
According to a report by Gianluca Di Marzio, Barcelona will look to sign Marcelo Brozovic this year. And the Catalan giants have offered struggling 26-year-old midfielder Franck Kessie to Serie A heavyweights Inter Milan in a swap deal for the Croatian international.
Marcelo Brozovic has been one of the best midfielders in Serie A since joining Inter Milan from Dinamo Zagreb. The 30-year-old initially arrived at San Siro on an 18-month loan deal in January 2015. And it was hardly surprising that Inter signed him permanently over half a dozen years ago.
The Croat has gone from strength to strength at the Serie A club, establishing himself as a pivotal figure for the Nerazzurri. Brozovic has turned out over 300 times thus far for Inter, chipping in with 30 goals and 37 assists. And the player’s progress has captured the interest of several high-profile clubs over the years, including Barcelona.
Barcelona bolstered the midfield unit by signing Franck Kessie in the summer transfer window. But the 26-year-old has struggled to stamp his authority at Spotify Camp Nou, with Xavi Hernandez not utilising him much. And recent reports have linked the Ivory Coast international with a possible exit.
The former AC Milan midfielder has emerged on the radars of several clubs, including Serie A giants Inter. And he might swap Barcelona for Milan for the second only a year after leaving the city. That is because the Catalan giants have offered Kessie in a swap deal to Inter Milan to sign Brozovic.
Replacing Kessie with Brozovic might be a clever decision by Barcelona. With Sergio Busquets in the twilight of his career, the Blaugrana will need a successor to the veteran midfielder. And Kessie is not a like-for-like alternative for Busquets. On the other hand, Brozovic can ideally take the Barcelona captain’s spot and fill the void superbly.
But recent reports have suggested that Kessie does not want to leave Barcelona. And a move to Inter Milan will be hugely controversial, considering his previous ties with AC Milan. It will be interesting to see if Barcelona’s swap offer brings Brozovic to Camp Nou.
