Serie A giants Inter Milan are reportedly interested in signing Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie from Barcelona next year.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Franck Kessie has popped up on the radar of Inter Milan. The Serie A giants are keen on signing the Ivorian midfielder from Barcelona, although a January move is unlikely.

Franck Kessie made his name in Italy after joining Atalanta from Ivorian outfit Stella Club. The 25-year-old did not spend many years at the Bergamo-based club but did enough to earn a move to AC Milan. And in the half a decade he spent at San Siro, he established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A.

But Kessie’s stint with AC Milan ended this past summer as he left the Rossoneri as a free agent. The Ivory Coast international joined Barcelona in a Bosman move, but the transfer has not worked out as envisioned thus far. The player has started just five of the 20 games played by Barcelona, with Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Gavi ahead of him in the pecking order.

Recent reports have thus claimed that Kessie is considering leaving Barcelona less than a year after arriving at San Siro. While the Ivorian midfielder’s agent has quashed such suggestions, his situation has captured the attention of Inter Milan.

Inter Milan bolstered the midfield unit in the summer transfer window by signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan. But the Armenian playmaker is on the wrong side of 30 and will only be a short-term solution. In addition, Marcelo Brozovic is also in his thirties, while recent reports have linked him with a few Premier League clubs.

Kessie is thus an option worth considering for Inter Milan. And the Serie A giants will see their midfield unit beef up considerably if the Barcelona midfielder arrives next year. But a January move is unlikely, with the 25-year-old keen on establishing a foothold at Spotify Camp Nou.

Meanwhile, the Ivory Coast international has also emerged on the radars of Aston Villa and Fulham. But a move to Inter Milan might be more appealing, considering he will have Champions League football on offer. At the same time, it will be interesting to see if Kessie can become a regular for Barcelona.
