La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly scouted 25-year-old French international Marcus Thuram, a target for Chelsea.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Marcus Thuram is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants have been running the rule over the 25-year-old Borussia Monchengladbach attacker. And the player is also a target for Premier League club Chelsea.
Marcus Thuram has reached a crossroads in his career, and he needs to plan his next move carefully. The Frenchman has been sensational in the 2022/23 season thus far, performing superbly for Borussia Monchengladbach. In addition, he was a handy contributor as Les Bleus reached the FIFA World Cup 2022 final.
The 25-year-old has 13 goals and four assists in 17 appearances across all competitions thus far this term. But Thuram has left Gladbach in a spot of bother as he is in the final six months of his contract. And his potential free-agent status has captured the attention of Barcelona and Chelsea.
Barcelona’s financial condition has not improved much during Joan Laporta’s tenure as the club supremo. And after splurging the cash due to several economic levers, Barcelona will return to the free-agent market this year. And Thuram has emerged as a viable target for the Blaugrana in the last few weeks.
The 25-year-old can play across the frontline. And with Memphis Depay, Raphinha, and Ferran Torres facing uncertain futures at Camp Nou, the Frenchman is an attractive option for Barcelona. But the Catalan giants face stiff competition from Chelsea for the in-form attacker.
The issue for Barcelona is that Chelsea will look to sign Thuram in the ongoing transfer window. The Blues have already opened talks to secure the services of the 25-year-old attacker. And with Todd Boehly desperately looking to reinforce the Chelsea squad, a January move might be possible.
So Barcelona will be helpless bystanders for the next few weeks, hoping to see a move to Chelsea collapse. If that happens, Thuram will become a top target for the Blaugrana in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see where the French international ends up this year, with his spell with Gladbach winding down.
