La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly considering signing 25-year-old World Cup finalist Marcus Thuram next year.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Marcus Thuram is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The 25-year-old World Cup finalist will likely leave Borussia Monchengladbach as a free agent in the summer. And Barcelona can sign the in-form attacker as a potential replacement for Raphinha.

Marcus Thuram has made significant progress since joining Borussia Monchengladbach from Guingamp. The Frenchman has battled fitness issues but has almost always been a pivotal figure for the Bundesliga outfit. And he is enjoying a memorable 2022/23 season thus far.

The 25-year-old has 13 goals and four assists in 17 appearances across all competitions this term. And Thuram made his mark during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, reprising the super-sub role as France reached the final. But at the club level, the player seems set for a new challenge as he is in the final year of his contract. Such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona.

Barcelona might cash in on a few players in the summer transfer window to balance the books. In addition, those sales will fund some deals for the financially stricken Blaugrana. And recent reports have claimed that Barcelona will offload Raphinha if the Brazilian’s performances do not improve.

The 26-year-old thus faces a crucial second half of the 2022/23 season. In addition, Ferran Torres faces an uncertain future at Spotify Camp Nou after failing to perform consistently since arriving from Manchester City. So Barcelona might have to delve into the market for two attacking additions next year.

Thuram has thus emerged as a viable target for Barcelona. And his potential free-agent status makes the 25-year-old World Cup finalist an attractive target for the Blaugrana. But Barcelona will have to compete with several Premier League clubs for the French international. However, Thuram is not the only option for the Catalan outfit.

They also have Moussa Diaby on their radar. In addition, Gabriel Martinelli has emerged as a target for Barcelona in recent weeks. But Thuram is the most attractive candidate, and it will be interesting to see if the 25-year-old World Cup finalist arrives at Camp Nou next year.
