Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing French international Marcus Thuram this month and have opened talks to secure his services.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have opened talks to sign 25-year-old French striker Marcus Thuram. And the west Londoners are exploring a January deal for the Borussia Monchengladbach man.

Armando Broja has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious injury. In addition, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has failed to find the back of the net consistently. Graham Potter needs to bring in a prolific scorer this month, and Thuram could prove to be a quality addition for them.

The 25-year-old will be a free agent in June, and he could be available for a knockdown price this month. Thuram has scored 13 goals across all competitions for Borussia Monchengladbach, and he has the technical and physical attributes to succeed in the Premier League. Given he could be available for a bargain this month, it is hardly a surprise that Chelsea are interested in signing him.

The Frenchman is entering his peak years and could be a key player for Graham Potter during the second half of the campaign. Chelsea will be hoping to secure a top-four finish and qualify for the UEFA Champions League. They cannot hope to achieve that without improvements to the squad in January.

The Blues have brought in a talented young striker in David Datro Fofana. But the youngster might not be ready to make an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge. Thuram, on the other hand, is a more established player and he will improve Chelsea immediately.

The French International has also been linked with other Premier League clubs in recent months. So it will be interesting to see if the Blues can fend off the competition and secure his services. For now, Chelsea have opened talks to secure his services.

The 25-year-old Gladbach striker can operate in wide areas as well apart from being a centre forward. And his versatility will be an added bonus for Potter and Chelsea. Thuram is apparently studying all offers in front of him and is in no rush to decide on his future immediately. It will be interesting to see if he is tempted to move to Stamford Bridge this month.
