Juventus battle Barcelona for Wilfried Zaha

Barcelona will reportedly compete with Juventus in the race to sign Wilfried Zaha from Premier League outfit Crystal Palace.

According to a report by Evening Standard, Wilfried Zaha is the subject of interest from Juventus. The Serie A giants want to sign the 30-year-old Crystal Palace attacker in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. And the player is also a target for La Liga heavyweights Barcelona.

Wilfried Zaha has been one of the best attackers in the Premier League during his second stint with Crystal Palace. The Ivory Coast international rejoined the Eagles from Manchester United over eight years ago. And after a short loan stint, he completed a permanent move in February 2015.

The 30-year-old has gone from strength to strength at Selhurst Park since then. And he is enjoying a solid 2022/23 season thus far, amassing six goals and three assists in 17 appearances. But Zaha has entered the final six months of his contract, with the situation alerting Barcelona and Juventus.

Barcelona will need to invest in a versatile attacker in the summer transfer window. That is because Memphis Depay will depart from Spotify Camp Nou this year. In addition, Ferran Torres and Raphinha face uncertain futures at the Catalan club amid their inconsistencies. Several forwards have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar, including Zaha.

The 30-year-old’s potential free-agent status aligns with Barcelona’s dire financial situation. And Zaha’s versatility will allow Xavi Hernandez to field him in different positions based on the opposition. But Barcelona will face stiff competition from Juventus for the Crystal Palace talisman.

Like Barcelona, Juventus will likely lose at least one wide attacker in the summer transfer window. Angel Di Maria only signed a short-term contract with the Bianconeri and might return to Argentina. Several players, including Bukayo Saka, have emerged on Juventus’s radar. And Zaha is also an option worth considering.

But it will be interesting to see if Barcelona or Juventus can end the 30-year-old’s stint in England. For now, the Serie A giants have emerged as the latest high-profile club chasing the experienced forward.
