La Liga champions Real Madrid have reportedly made the first move to sign Jeremie Frimpong, a target for Manchester United.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid recently submitted an enquiry for Jeremie Frimpong. The Bayer Leverkusen defender, valued between €40 million and €50 million, is also a target for Manchester United.

Jeremie Frimpong has made significant progress since rising to prominence at Celtic. The 22-year-old made his mark at the club level at the Scottish club after leaving Manchester City in 2019. And he has gone from strength to strength since joining Bayer Leverkusen from Celtic nearly two years ago.

The Dutchman has been one of the most enterprising right-backs in the Bundesliga in the last two years. And Frimpong is enjoying a solid campaign, chipping in with five goals and two assists in 21 appearances thus far. The player’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Real Madrid and Manchester United setting their sights on him.

Real Madrid will likely delve into the market for a right-back due to Dani Carvajal’s inconsistencies in the past year. The veteran Spaniard remains the first-choice right-back for Los Blancos. But his performance levels have dipped, thus compelling Real Madrid to look for a right-back. In addition, Lucas Vazquez has blown hot and cold while reprising the right-back role.

Frimpong has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid. And the reigning La Liga champions have submitted an enquiry for the young full-back. But Real Madrid will have to fend off competition from Manchester United to sign the 22-year-old from Bayer Leverkusen.

Manchester United will likely offload Aaron Wan-Bissaka sometime next year. And while Diogo Dalot has been superb this season, Erik ten Hag wants another option to compete with the Portuguese international. So Frimpong is an option worth considering for Manchester United. And the Red Devils are reportedly set to open talks to sign the Dutchman.

Bayer Leverkusen will demand between €40 million and €50 million to part ways with Frimpong. Real Madrid might be in the pole position to sign the 22-year-old full-back after making the first move. But it will be interesting to see if Manchester United can usurp Los Blancos to sign the player.
