Real Madrid are reportedly ahead of the queue to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s exciting right-back and Manchester United target Jeremie Frimpong.

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid are vying for Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong. Los Blancos are ahead of the queue for the Dutchman, with Manchester United and Barcelona also keen.

Jeremie Frimpong is attracting plenty of attention from clubs around the continent. The right-back has impressed with his performances for Bayer Leverkusen this season, hitting the net five times and providing three assists across all competitions.

Those displays this season landed Frimpong a place on the plane to Qatar with the Netherlands. While he is yet to kick a ball at the World Cup, he remains a good option for Louis van Gaal to consider if needed during the tournament. Irrespective of what happens in the Middle East, the Dutchman has a bright future.

Many top clubs are considering making approaches for Frimpong when the January transfer window opens. Bayer Leverkusen have no interest in selling the Manchester United target but may consider offers in the summer. The Bundesliga outfit have constantly developed good players and sold them for a profit, something they might continue with the Dutchman.

While Manchester United are interested along with Barcelona, it is Spanish giants Real Madrid who are reportedly ahead of the queue for the Dutchman. Frimpong’s qualities make him a formidable option for the future, particularly Los Blancos, who have an ageing list of right-backs.

Dani Carvajal is 30 and has suffered multiple fitness problems in recent years, while Lucas Vazquez, 31, may not have much time at the club. Alvaro Odriozola does not seem to have a long-term future at the Santiago Bernabeu, which points to Real Madrid eyeing a new player in the position.

Over the last few windows, Real Madrid acquired a few young talents, such as Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga. They might continue the trend and bring in players that would fit their system after a thorough development process.

While Real Madrid are considered front-runners for Frimpong, the Dutchman is also a Manchester United target. Erik ten Hag is in the market for a new right-back and could look at another Dutch player to solve the problem area. For now, Diogo Dalot is the preferred choice for the position, which makes Frimpong a likely replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

In any case, a move may not materialise in January, and these clubs could battle during the summer window. Bayer Leverkusen would like to continue harnessing the player’s development and offer a new contract as his current deal expires in 2025.
